What Does Camron, Dame Dash and Bill O'Reilly Have in common? Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh My!

So can Hip Hop slide any deeper down the pit of ignorance and anti-intellectualism? Dame Dash, Camron and Salome Thomas-El were having a “debate on the effects of hip hop culture on black youth” on the Bill O’Reilly Show.  First of all why would they patronize a man who has made a career out of lying and sensationalizing untruths to the American public on just about everything (too many examples to mention) A man how has demonstrated he is against hip hop and the everything about the black culture! Secondly, Dame and Camron debating the effects negative hip hop? Are you kidding me, Camron and his Dipset crew with the sanctioning of Dame have been on a back and forth negative “dissing” campaign against the likes of Jay-Z, Rockafella, and 50 Cent. It has all been negative, senseless, gun talk, murder talk, mixtapes and dvd’s all over the streets, having nothing at all to do with hip hop. Then again, with hip hop records sales continuing to nose dive, with no savior in site, with creativity gone, the dumbing down of our youth, xxl-90-small.jpg its no wonder they would go on the Bill O’lielly show.  It’s all about marketing.

Kenya i hear ya.. Those were the good old days.. waiting for the video to debut on Yo mtv raps.. Staying up past 12 to hear dj red alert or chuck chill Out break one of those songs.. as a matter of fact Red Alert was the one who brought out the whole Native Tongue era (jungle brothers, tribe called quest, black sheep, queen latifa, de la soul). Imagine that a dj debuting groups that are positive. but if we have to do more than reminisce about what was and start the revolution now! One way is supporting Smash Crew! thanks

You cannot bash them you have to confront them and privatly state your mission. Obviously they have enuff to earn media attention so yes of course The OTHER people would want a civil war WITHIN hip hop , how a better way to END it by fighting amoungst each other Lose - Lose. civil mind tatics wil l get us further
By: The Force on 3/6/2007
Revolution or civil war won't do a thing. We had that back when BDP and PE galvanized the hip hop community in the late 80s, early 90s. Which was the same time we had the Native tongues and YZ's popping up and trying to be positive. We all had on aftica tshirts and black medalllions, sporting dreads and what not.

Haha, all it took was Puffy to start dancing in shiny suits and drive a 600 benz (u was wack if u had a 500) to negate all that work.

Until we as a people overcome that self materialism and gain some unity, doesnt matter what happens in hiphop. We are too splintered as a race. We can collaborate on anything for the good of the community, we are just worried about what is good for our own personal pocket and how it makes us feel at the expense of another black or latino.

well i'm biased , straight up , BDP and PE was cool but did sqaut for my hood , i mean do not get me wrong the music and message was good, but everyone did'nt want to hear revolution music, Puffy first approach was cool the problem was he abused it. , but i'll be real here , Money and Opportunity came in the mid 90's alot of our Balck and latin people was able to get chances like never before. You think in the 80's a black man coming home from jail or just never given the chance. could get a job as an editor , or magazine , or video producer, or fashion , security , the problem is the dependcy afterwards. I mean record labels and etc. has been started. more independant. blah blah

I have to disagree with you Wintaz when u say PE and BDP did nothing for the hood. Who before them was talking about education and self improvement before them?

That revolutionary talk and knowledge talk is what sparked the entreprenuers to start the labels and magazines and what not that popped up in the 90s.

PE, BDP, KRS, SHAN and others during the "golden era" allowed the Puffies, Jay Z's, Biggies etc to prosper. This is always my issue with the new generation of hip hop fans. They just don’t take the time to understand the history and evolvement of rap. It’s almost like the hip hop started in Queens Bridge argument all over again. In the Golden Era you had your conscious rap your educational rap your thug rap as well as other forms played together. You were able to pick and choose, love or hate dance or research whatever you wanted to do. You have NONE of that now! Of course as rap became more marketed and profitable the jobs and opportunities came with it.

History is understood but it's the stubborn older generation that is hard be faced with the reality , i guarantee you the older hip hops elders was on them.
like my dude Wintaz said is true PE BDP was giving good music but nobody was leaving the hood. nobody was eating, I do not dismiss the music they did it was fly don;t get me wrong , but the music effecting me a 23 year old was not such, the only arugument i can side on is the selection of todays music. You also have to look at whats going on in the hood the stubborn old heads ASSUME they know and mostly shut us down when we speak . all these old timers talkin crap saying we lost , but these same heads was strung out on crack etc. in the streets are you see them bumed out , is it jealousy ? what i learned from them is the rape game in rap and what not to do.
